How To Backup Data - Your Ultimate Guide
As of today, there are thousands and thousands of data and information lost everyday. The reason for this is because people pay little or no attention at all to data backup and storage. Data and information lost means money or assets lost. If you feel that your data is important, why not back it up? In order to do this, one must know How to Backup Data efficiently and effectively.
Firstly, you must know what type of data or information needs backup. Whether these data or information consists of pictures, important documents, client or customer databases, company financial records or employee records, you must be able to pinpoint which among these types of data or information you need to back up. Rank these types of data or information in a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the highest then decide thru the ranking. Then choose among these rankings on what is the priority data and information to be backed up.
Secondly, you must know what kind of data backup media you will be using. The different types of data backup available today are writing your files to rewritable CDs or DVDs, storing these files in removable USB hard-disk drives and uploading your files to a remotely or online based file hosting server. Whatever your choice among these types of data backup maybe, the important factors are the cost and effectiveness of your chosen backup. If you have a small-scale business, then backup using CDs or DVDs is more efficient because you have limited amount of data to backup. If you have a large enterprise, then using an online files hosting server for data backup is more economical since you have large volumes of data.
Thirdly, you must know the level of access to the data or information that you will be backing up. You must have first-hand knowledge of the different security requisites and concerns regarding your chosen backup method. Also, you must ensure that your data or information backup has 100% file accuracy. If it is less than 100%, then you may want to reconsider, especially if the data or information is important. Another thing you must make certain is the safety of your backup against unauthorized personnel that may access it. Put a password and use different encryption tools in order to make sure your data or information stays safe from hackers and other intruders.
Fourth, you must know the schedule of your backups. Decide on whether you need to back up your data or information weekly, everyday, every 12 hours, every 6 hours or every hour. This usually depends on the amount of new data or information recorded from the time of the last backup. Important and valuable documents, files and records that contain necessary information about your business, your profits and your clients are typical examples of data or information, which needs hourly backups.
Finally, the most important step on How to Backup Data is not forgetting to perform daily backups manually or personally. Whether your system automatically backs up your data in a daily or hourly basis make it a point to back all your data or information personally. This will ensure that you have at least one reliable backup if ever your backup system fails to backup your data even if it is scheduled to do so.
